Psalm 11 (ESV)

1 In the Lord I take refuge;
how can you say to my soul,
“Flee like a bird to your mountain,
for behold, the wicked bend the bow;
they have fitted their arrow to the string
to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart;
if the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do?”

The Lord is in his holy temple;
the Lord’s throne is in heaven;
his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.
The Lord tests the righteous,
but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.
Let him rain coals on the wicked;
fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their   cup.
For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds;
the upright shall behold his face.

REFLECTION:

  1. This psalm records well-intentioned, but faithless, advice of David’s friends when he was a fugitive from King Saul. David lifts his eyes to the Lord to find faith in a time of testing. He knew the safest place to stand was in radical trust in God.
  2. Have you ever felt that your foundations were being destroyed and you wanted to run away?
  3. Remember, running to God is always safer than running away. Besides, the wicked will surely receive God’s judgment.

PRAYER:

Stay with God for a little longer.  Continue to converse with God and listen to what He wants to tell you.  Then write down any thought and/or prayer in your spiritual journal.
