260 Devotional, Sept 2, Galatians 6

1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.

 6 Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Reflection

  1. Being free from the Mosaic Law does not mean being free from responsibility. In this section Paul explained various responsibilities that Christians have to one another to clarify the will of God for them. Manifesting the fruit of the Spirit is not a mystical experience. Paul said spirituality is evident in personal relationships (vv. 1-5) and in the use of money (vv. 6-10).
  2. Reading through this passage slowly once or twice again.  At each responsibility Paul mentioned, and ask if God is speaking to you on a particular area?
  3. Paul expressed a basic truth. We can now choose our way of life. But God has chosen the consequences.  What is the path you choose?
  4. What can you do this week to “sow to please the Spirit” (v8)?

Prayer & Journaling:

Stay with God for a little longer.  Continue to converse with God and listen to what he wants to tell you.

If you have a prayer journal, as you listen to God, write down a few thoughts, questions, words, names, drawings, or anything that has come to your mind during this time.

Family Time (Begin this time by reading the passage above using a children’s Bible. If your children are younger, you may read vv9-10 only.)

Plan a “D0-Good Activity”.  Identify a person who needs help.  Next, decide what good thing your family could do to help.  Perhaps you could rake leaves, deliver cookies, do grocery shopping, or make a visit.  You may want to continue helping for a period of time if appropriate.  Assign responsibilities, write them on your Family Devotional Journal and begin the activity.  Remember, do not get tired of doing good!

Proverbs for Today 21:12-14

12 The Righteous One observes the house of the wicked;
    he throws the wicked down to ruin.
13 Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor
    will himself call out and not be answered.
14 A gift in secret averts anger,
    and a concealed bribe, strong wrath.
