CHAPTER 2
1I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time. 7And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles. 8 Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing. 9 I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
MEDITATION
- Paul wants us to pray for the salvation of everyone (vv1, 4, 6,7). We pray for our rulers and for peace that others may find peace in Christ so that we all may “live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness”.
- The most effective evangelism is supported by the evidence of “quiet lives” lived “in all godliness and holiness”. The most powerful aid to the Gospel is not sudden fear created by danger, but a growing hunger for the peace and goodness observed in the lives of ordinary Christians.
- Sit quietly before God and wait. Lift up hands and pray earnestly for those people and needs that the Holy Spirit brings to mind. Pray also for the political leaders in my country, and local leaders. Pray for peace for my city.
Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.
