“Listening to God” Bible Reading & Devotion: March 18, 2020 – Psalms 2

Psalm 2 (ESV)

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,
“Let us burst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”

He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.
Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying,
“As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.”

I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”

10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

 

REFLECTION:

  1. This psalm continues the theme of two ways that we can choose to journey in life and invites us to make a wise choice: the righteous think about how to follow God’s ways while the others think about how to rebel against God’s authority and purposes.
  2. We often laugh at the absurd, and what could be more absurd than waving our fists and plotting against God, whose purposes are wonderful and whose authority is unrivaled? How silly can we get?
  3. In what specific ways do I face the decision to choose between serving the Lord and resisting God to the end and be destroyed in His wrath? What’s my choice?  Ask God to help me choose to serve Him and follow Him to the

 

PRAYER:

Stay with God for a little longer.  Continue to converse with God and listen to what He wants to tell you.  Then write down any thought and/or prayer in your spiritual journal.
