CHAPTER 30 (ESV)

1 “But now they laugh at me,

men who are younger than I,

whose fathers I would have disdained

to set with the dogs of my flock…

9 “And now I have become their song;

I am a byword to them.

10 They abhor me; they keep aloof from me;

they do not hesitate to spit at the sight of me…

16 “And now my soul is poured out within me;

days of affliction have taken hold of me…

20 I cry to you for help and you do not answer me;

I stand, and you only look at me.

21 You have turned cruel to me;

with the might of your hand you persecute me.

22 You lift me up on the wind; you make me ride on it,

and you toss me about in the roar of the storm.

23 For I know that you will bring me to death

and to the house appointed for all living.

REFLECTION:

In Chapter 30 Job describes the humiliation he suffered in suffering. It is hard to bear Job’s loss, and it is even worse to be ridiculed and humiliated by a pretentious young man. Job has lost all the good things in his life: his family, property, health, status and fame. He courageously endured these sufferings without the understanding and respect of the people. In addition to the torment of the suffering itself, there was another level of mental torture. We must understand that in real life, humiliation often comes with suffering. In suffering, we not only bear the pain of suffering itself, but also bear the burden of humiliation and keep moving forward. However, let us not forget that although the world does not understand us and even ridicule us, God is walking with us. We thought that God was silent to us. In fact, God did not forsake us for a moment. He loves us and loves us to the end. He is our only support and comfort in suffering.

PRAYER:

Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen to what he wants to tell you.  As you listen to God, write down a few thoughts, questions, words, names, drawings, or anything that comes to your mind into your devotional journal.
