CHAPTER 18 (ESV)

1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:

2 “How long will you hunt for words?

Consider, and then we will speak.

3 Why are we counted as cattle?

Why are we stupid in your sight?

4 You who tear yourself in your anger,

shall the earth be forsaken for you,

or the rock be removed out of its place?

REFLECTION:

Bildad thought he knew how the universe worked. He saw Job’s situation as an example of the consequences of his sins. Bildad dismissed Job’s claim because it did not fit his usual thinking. It is not difficult to condemn Bildad because his mistake is obvious. Unfortunately, when our opinions are challenged, we often do the same thing. How do you get along with your brothers and sisters who have very different opinions? If we are in strife, we should humbly ask for God’s Will and keep our unity in His love.

PRAYER:

Stay with God for a little longer.  Continue to converse with God and listen to what he wants to tell you.  As you listen to God, write down a few thoughts, questions, words, names, drawings, or anything that comes to your mind into your devotional journal.
