Chapter 3:16-21
16“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”
Meditation:
- Nicodemus who was a Pharisee, one night he decided to speak to Jesus and question him. It was through this line of questioning that Nicodemus truly began to understand the teachings of Jesus and was helped “out of the dark” and into a new life of “light.” Kathleen Norris wrote “I came to understand that God hadn’t lost me, even if I seemed for years to have misplaced God.” How do I view the time I have spent wandering in darkness, maybe struggling against new birth?
- Read through the passage. Are there any words or phrases that stand out to me? Why? What do I think God is trying to tell me?
- Talk to God about both the phrases that confused me and those that really captivated me.
Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.
